Although he is a young guide, he is still an eyewitness of the civil war. During the war as one of many refugees he and his family fled because of severe fighting, eventually ending up in Phnom Penh.
Meng Ratha graduated in 12th grade. He learned a lot about the history of the Cambodian civil war from history books before he became a tour guide at the museum. He has also learned a lot about the war from war veterans. In addition, his father was a soldier who fought against the Khmer Rouge and he taught him a lot. Also, his grandmother taught him the real story what happened in that time.
